It All Started with Planning…
The City of Richmond, located on the coast of British Columbia’s Lower Mainland, is a vibrant city with a population of around 220,000. Home to the Vancouver International Airport and a host city for the 2010 Winter Olympics, Richmond began exploring options in 2022 to replace its 20-year-old Capital and Budget Model tool. The goal was to find a modern planning and reporting tool that would seamlessly integrate with their existing PeopleSoft ERP and HCM applications, supporting future growth and marking the first step in their transformation journey from on-premise solutions to a modern, cloud-based integrated solution.
The City had been relying on outdated applications that required tedious enhancements to meet their evolving planning needs. This not only delayed the planning process but also impacted their budgeting, long-term planning, and reporting timelines, making them heavily reliant on spreadsheets and external tools for document retention and historical data. Their objective was to implement a best-in-class Planning Application that would enhance their financial capabilities, improve efficiencies, and be user-friendly and intuitive for a broad user base.
After several rounds of evaluation, the City determined that Oracle Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) Planning was the optimal tool to meet their planning and reporting needs. This decision marks the beginning of their journey towards a fully integrated financial function, preparing them for future transformation.
